I was on a finance (stock) message board and became embroiled in an argument...The guy said he would get me...a few days later my computer was infected with a virus and everytime I went to log in my login area was not the usual login site. Could they have hacked into my computer via my ip address on the yahoo message board?

you can get a hacker by clicking ads,and installing things..... these hackers are really called keyloggers! if you want to know if you have one look on the bottom right corner were the clock is theres a little red dot like this * but red key loggers steal all ur paswords and change them! ads and instaling bad things can also slow your computer down so watch out!

I think the guy is full of s***. There is no way for a person that does not work directly with Yahoo to get that information off some message board.

Most likely he was trying to scare you.

Did you open any e-mails with attatchments from unknown people? That could be the cause.

I suggest getting a good/free anti-virus or anti-Trojan program from download.com or downloads.com (I forget which link is correct).

The only way he could do it is if you had your computer hooked up to a router with no kind of security system that prevents other computers in your immediate neighborhood from using your router.

By doing this he could hack into your computer and implant software and steal personal info.

Of course, anything is possible on the Web these days, but I don't see how he would have gotten your IP address via just a message board. Did you contact him via email? Did he know your Yahoo! email address?

There is software to get or just have the sense in yourself.
I mean most of the time it is obvious.
