Actually, Napoleon Bonaparte was from the island of Corsica, which has alternated in ownership between France and Italy over the centuries. At the time that Napoleon came to power in France, Corsica was a French possession.

Well, not really Italian (although arguably he could be considered Italian); Napoleon I was born in Corsica, which is a territory that was sold to France by the Italians right before he was born.

Although he was king of Italy, he was most famously the Emperor of France, and mostly known for his role as a general during the french revolution and also for his bright mind and wits.

Even though Napoleon I is the best known of all Bonapartes, I think your question is about Napoleon II....
Napoleon I had an only child who was also called Napoleon Bonaparte; by birth he had the right as the King of Rome, but was also briefly emperor of France as Napoleon II (after his famous dad abdicated) until he died of tuberculosis.

Unless you are talking about another Napoleon Bonaparte, Pierre Napoleon, prince of Italy and nephew of the most famous Napoleon I. Son of Lucien Bonaparte (Napoleon Bonaparte's brother), he was born in Rome, and lived a troubled life.
