I read an article in the paper the other day about 2 minors who had sex (male & female), Why is it when the law gets involved in such things it is always only the boy who suffers the legal consequences? If the sex was consentual, should'nt both have to suffer the legal consequences?

You have given absolutely no facts on which to base an opinion. The issues of statutory rape are state specific and fact specific. The mere fact that both were minors has no bearing on the outcome. How they were minors, their ages and the specific relationship between the two does.

Depends on who's older than who. If a 16 year old girl has consensual sex with an eleven year old boy, she could be banged with a statutory rape and vise versa..

If they were both minors, it isn't statutory rape unless the older child is 3 yrs old or more. Then it is a misdemeanor. This is whether it is a girl or a boy. And it has been increasing in the cases of older girls with younger boys. Sick no matter how you look at it. If the person who is older is considered an adult, then they can be charged with a felony.

actually,
I think neither should
a law/standerd can't dictate what someone will know or be ready for at a certain age....
personally I think statutory rape is BS, if the person knows what they're doing than the fact that they are of minor age does not mean they were taken advantage of, we need to give less judge to age itself. maturity is the factor there.

I think we need to stay out of things. we have far too many laws....and regarding what two *consenting* people do in a bedroom- does anyone else think this is ridiculous?
it's not JUST age either, there's also the issue of gay marraige etc...just let people live their lives. the government was supposed to -protect- it's citizens, once it begins limiting them, it's crossing the line.

First, by law, a minor can't give consent. Second, the law is there to keep a predator from taking advantage of younger children.
