They numb it and it doesn't hurt at all. Don't let others scare you. Maybe they had bad dentists !!!!! You'll be fine !!!!

Having a tooth out is never a nice experience. And I only ever had a milk tooth pulled out - they don't have proper roots!

Stil, for an adult tooth I would imagine they will use local anaesthetic, they certainly did when I had a filling (also on my back tooth). The injection hurt like hell - they often do - but after that all I really experienced was discomfort from the saliva building up in my mouth, and the fact I couldn't swallow or even move my mouth.

If you do have the tooth out, invest in some heavy duty painkillers and a tube of bonjela. You'll need them. A decent mouthwash will also keep infection away from the wound until it heals.

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled last friday, and i was awake for it as well. They said i would be out of it and not remember much, but i remember every second and ended up having a panic attack in the middle of it, though i thought it was an asthma attack. It didn't hurt, and i don't regret doing it that way now that its over. Do you have all 4? I did. My best friend got hers out Monday but she only had the top two and she was back at work Wednesday. She was put all the way out, and she was fine as well , but a little more nauseous. I am feeling pretty good by today, my right side still aches a little, but otherwise as long as i have my ibuprofen i am fine! don't sweat it, docs do this all the time and you will be fine. stock up on foods like cup of noodles and jello, and take your pills. the pain ones will make you sick if you don't eat so make sure you have something with them, and you'll be conked out for a couple days. have fun! good luck!

OK people, settle down. Clearly you are concerned here. I just had a back tooth pulled two weeks ago. My dentist gave me Novocaine and I didn't feel a thing. Let your dentist know about your fears, it's not uncommon. Just a little background in case it helps. Tooth pulled a couple of weeks ago, temp put on, root canal next week, followed by a crown in a couple of weeks. Also, you might want to bring an ipod to help you block out what's going on. It really will be OK. Plus chances are really good the problem will continue to get worse if you don't take care of it now. Good luck!

I had one pulled before. They rubbed novacaine on it then gave me a shot in the gums to deaden the area where the tooth was being pulled. The shot hurt a little but only for a second. I didn't feel anything but pressure when they pulled the tooth but it didn't hurt.

You will feel no pain because a local anaesthetic is used.
It is, however, not particularly pleasant, as a lot of pressure is required to extract the tooth... so you will feel a lot of pressing down on the gum, etc.
It will be sore afterwards, but you'll probably have antibiotics to eliminate any possible infection and ibuprofen should do the trick for any pain.
Basically, it's worth it in the long run.
I had two wisdom teeth taken out, and I'm so glad I did.

It doesn't hurt at all. I had 6 teeth pulled in one visit before I got my braces. They give you a shot so everything is numb, and they make sure you can't feel anything before they pull it. The shot doesn't even really hurt. Pulling the tooth basically feels like a pressure on your mouth. Afterward just don't drink through a straw and don't eat really hot or really cold food.

As long as your Dentist gives you enough novacaine shots, you won't feel anything except the pressure from pulling. They should look at it and xray the tooth first since it's hurting. They may need to give you antibiotics. My wife is terrified of the dentist and she had 2 teeth pulled last month. She said once you get past the first shot, it's not bad. Don't wait too long, you don't want it to turn into an abcess.....that is painful!

there's nothing to worry about, you'll have enough anesthetics to not feel anything, but you will hear (as someone mentioned) alot of crunching, pliers on teeth, and you may fear that the amount of pressure used with break the tooth, but I've had two taken out and the first thing I've done when walking home from having my tooth out, is buy a crusty roll, or some fries to eat on the way.
Truly nothing to worry about.....better than having a filling!!

It's not very painful. The worst part is that you can feel and see him jarring it out. You just feel a lot of pressure. You can actually feel the root and everything coming out. And you can hear the cracking of the tooth....it makes me shudder just thinking about it. It's not too painful. More uncomfortable than anything. when the medication wears off it's gets a bit painful. On one tooth that I had pulled, my cheek was soooo swollen for 3 days. The other ones healed pretty easily and quickly tho. Just relax. Wont kill you. The Novocain does a hell of a job.

a lot of pulling and shoving , from a very numb gum.
relax my friend,

eat less sugary sweets in future, but i heard chocolate is supposed to contain a chemical that reduces the effects or something.

sorry i strayed from the point. apart from not having alcohol or hot drinks for a while, you should have little worries.
if you feel any pain, tell your dentist and he/she will numb your gum some more. but you should be fine. you will have a rubber cheeks and tongue for a few hours, be careful not to bite yourself. No worries mate. good luck
