Yes. I used to move furniture and appliances for a living. There are fluids inside the fridge and if you lay it on its side they move around where they aren't supposed to be. It may not ruin the fridge but if you must lay it on it's side let it sit upright for 12-24 hours prior to plugging it back in.

Lay Refrigerator On Back

If you put the fridge on its side the oil and liquid refrigerant move out of where they need to be. Once the fridge is upright, leave it off and unplugged for 24 hours. That will ensure the oil and refrigerant would have migrated back to the compressor sump. If you start it without waiting the time, it will be the same as running your car's engine without oil. Yeah, exactly. Just be careful to not bend any lines while you're moving it.

You can lay it on it's side and like others have said stand upright for 24 hours before running. However, I have seen in the wall oil cooling loops crack after a ref has been laid on it's side rendering the unit junk. It is fairly rare but it does happen, especially if it is older. Lay on side at own risk - transport upright if at all possible.

Take all food out --you may wish to remove the inside shelves also. Protect the finish by laying a blanket down(pick-up bed)and sliding the ref in. If you do not dent it --- you will be in good shape. When you get it there -- just let it stand upright for a time to let the compressor oil drain down -- does"nt take that long -- 1/2 hour is plenty of time. The repairman will know you brought it in laid down also. There"s no big problem here at all. Have fun.

It's ok to lay it on it's side for a minute or two, but the oil in the compressor will begin to pool, and when it's turned back on, the oil will not be where it needs to be, and you'll damage the compressor. If you transport it on it's side, it's best to let it sit upright for 24 hours to make sure the oil is where it needs to be.

YES YES and YES.Take my word for it. Do not plug your refrigerator in if you have laid it on its side after moving it.. Give it 24 hour for the oil to go back where it belongs. We moved one in a rental and had to lay it down getting it up the steps. I told them not to plug it in for a couple of hours to let it drain back down and they plug it in anyway and it caught on fire. This happen 10 O'clock at night. Thank god they had not gone to bed yet. This could have been a disaster.

not that it's bad but if at all possible standing it up is better, if you have to lay it on it's side just let it set for about 24 hours beforie using

Only if you plug it in immediately. If you move a fridge or freezer in any position other than upright wait 24 hours after its back upright before plugging it in.
