Jim : Thank you for a good answer. I would never consider wanting to exterminate anything..hell, i don't even kill mosquitos in my own home. The question was ment for humour if you didn't notice it. But thank you for a good answer!

Yes. Mosquito are the food of many birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and mammals, and even a few plants. Mosquito larva are the food on one endangered species of fish. Many other small fish common to ponds and lakes feed upon larval mosquito, not to mention many other aquatic insects and bugs. .

No. "We" can not "just" exterminate them. When humans try things like that the results are usually terrible. Look up DDT sometime when you wanna learn something of the consequences of attempted pest control by humans using chemicals.

they are good for food sources for other animals, and making them "extinct" would cause all kinds of havoc. as for the diseases they cause, disease is just natures way of controling the population and weeding out the less fit individuals. im not saying its ok that people die from preventable malaria in developing countries, but come on..its not mosquitos fault, its our fault for not providing cheap viable vaccine and treatments. even though it is sad and disturbing it is life. more animals and therefore people would probably suffer and die if this food web was so drastically disrupted than from the diseases that are transferred

no, they should be extinct together with the house flies.. i don't think being a food for other animals is a reason enough to cancel all their discomforts and diseases they causing to humans as well as otehr animals
