I have Craftsman Lawn Tractor and it's about 16 years old. It has been burning deck belts ( one after another ). Can someone tell me how to fix this problem. It has a sound motor on it. Thank You for your help

More than likely your problems have been defined in previous answers. But there is one more thing to consider. The belt. If you`re replacing it with a belt that is`nt designed for this purpose, you may be just wasting your time and money. Don`t purchase them from a autoparts store. These belts are of a different makeup and rating. Get one from a lawn mower service and sales. They should be also able to cross reference the bearings you need for your deck spindles.

Sounds like your deck needs new bearings. Also check all the belt guards are they not scraping the belt, or the belt on the wrong side of the guards? If the belt looks true and in the pulleys, try to rotate the blades by hand (with the engine OFF)
If they rotate hard or anything but smooth the bearings are shot.
Sears has a very good website for parts. www.sears.com
Go to the parts tab, enter your model # and it will show you a diagram and parts list for your tractor. Select your parts, it will give you a price and you can also find out if your local repair center has the parts in stock. You can order online if you wish.

Remove the mower deck and check the blade spindles for binding. They have upper and lower bearings. Also check the condition of the pulleys including the tensioning pulley. All the pulleys must be in alignment and turning fee. You can replace the bearing in the spindles but I believe that the tensioning pulley would have to be replaced if it is worn etc. You can also replace the pulleys on the spindles.

If it is burning belts, something isn't moving. Could be a bad pulley or bent shaft. Try turning all the pulleys by hand. (disconnect the spark plug first)

Something is out of alignment. Take it to a pro to get it lined up, may need bearings.
