Total miles divided by your car's MPG = gallons of gas used.
Gallons used x avg. price of gas/gal = total expense for gas.

Detroit to Phoenix is 2179 miles.
If your car gets 20 miles per gallon, then you will use 109 gallons of gas on trip.
109 gallons @ avg. $3.10/gal = approx. $338.00
