What do you do to keep yourself looking lame at a party?

Where no one is talking to you, and you are just standing there idle-y . Do you just stare at others or what?

Start a conversation. Circle the room and if a person looks nice, just walk up, say hi, and comment on something at the party. Not something blatantly obvious, but comment that everyone seems to be having a nice time, or the music's really great, something like that. Or quietly suggest a party game, like Anywhere But Here, or Movie Quotes, where each person has to give a quote from a movie & the others guess what movie it is. Or start a subject in a gossipy way, but keep it innocent, without truly talking bad about anybody. That way you look good because most people simply *love* gossip, but you don't get on anyone's bad side because you're not really saying anything bad about anybody. Or dance, if you think you look good on the floor!

If you try several things and nothing works, then perhaps that just wasn't the party for you. It doesn't mean anything bad about you, just maybe you're shy? Or it was just a bad night. Don't give up though, and good luck.
