None of the above. I do remember the song. You have the first line right (the second line went "catching butterflies before it gets too dark") and I think the title probably was "The kinda lazy life I love". I worked in a covers band at the time and remember singing/playing it, but sorry, can't remember who performed it. An American solo singer, I think, but not well known.

:Kings Of Convenience - Little Kids

Little kids playing in the park downtown
Someone's dad is watching
From the side of the ground
I'm following my shadow so I cross the street
Car passing stereo I like the beat

Open up the door
Turning on the fan
Dropping down the keys that I held in my hand
And then start waiting for her steps
To be heard in the staircase
Enter the room and let down her bag
Asking me all kinds of trivial questions
Pretending an everyday life we don't have
Pretending an everyday life we don't have
Pretending an everyday life we don't have

Little kids playing in the park downtown
Soon they'll be all gone as the sun goes down
Little kids playing in the park downtown
Soon they'll be all gone as the sun goes down
And rises over, Brooklyn Bridge tomorrow
Hours later I will follow
Wake up to a life that's hollow without love
Without love...
Without love...

"Make Me Smile" by Chicago?
Make Me Smile
Chicago

Children play in the park, they don't know
I'm alone in the dark, even though
Time and time again I see your face smiling inside

I'm so happy
That you love me
Life is lovely
When you're near me
Tell me you will stay
Make me smile

Living life is just a game so they say
All the games we used to play fade away
We may now enjoy the dreams we shared so long ago

Oh my darling, got to have you. Feel the magic when I hold you
Cry sweet tears of joy, touch the sky

Now I need you more than ever. No more crying - we're together
Tell me you will stay. Make me smile
