Here is the situation: he is 17 and is going to turn 18 in November. school starts back up in August and his parents are making him move to Cary and switching schools. His parents sent him away for the summer just because they don't want him to be with his girlfriend for other reasons. now, he wants to be able to stay at his current high school, but if his parents move to cary during this summer, then he'll have to switch schools and he wants to finish his last year and not be pulled out so close to graduation. he wants to get emancipated because his parents do cause him emotional stress and he did go to counseling and even his counselor thought his parents were out of hand with how they treat him mentally and emotionally. the questions are can he get emancipated while he's away, how long would the process take, does he need a place to go if he gets emancipated, what if his parents don't allow it, if someone can give me any information about this and what he can do in this situation.

1. Can he become emancipated? He needs to talk to a family law attorney. Each jurisdiction has different requirements. If you are in the USA, look up the state or county bar association on-line or in the phone book for a lawyer.

2. If his parents approve and he can find a sponsor, he can stay in the current town with a family that would take him in for the school year.

3. Once he turns 18 [I assume that he is in the USA], he can legally move out from his parents home. He would have to support himself as well as go to school.
