DO NOT CHANGE THE POSITION OF YOUR XBOX 360 WHILE IT IS ON WITH A DISC IN THE DRIVE OR YOU RISK POTENTIALLY DAMAGING YOUR GAME DISC.
A growing number of Xbox 360 customers are reporting having problems with their disc's getting scratched by the DVD drive when switching the unit's position from vertical to horizontal and vise versa.

Yeah you did this yourself. I guess you never saw the numerous warnings about NEVER moving the 360 while it's on.
If you ever want to move it, turn it off, make sure nothing is in the CD tray, and then move it.
Some 360s produced in a certain time frame (I don't believe the launch ones) have a part missing and will do this when you're playing.
But yeah, if you moved it while you were playing, then this explains everything.
You can try calling Microsoft and see what they do.

hey, So if you didn't actually move your 360 while it was on like everyone is saying, it can still happen like it happened to me. It's probably only a one time thing where a piece of dust got on the disk. It probably won't happen again but if you want your disc fixed here's what you need to do. Just go to a blockbuster or rogers or something and for a fee of like $3 they will clean the disc with a special machine. This worked great and haven't had a problem since.
