Sirius Black is actually James Potter's best friend, and Harry's godfather.
He dies in the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix.

Sirius Black isn't Harry's uncle he is Harry's godfather. He dies in the fifth book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in the Department of Mysteries.
