I have a large garden and its divided into 2. 1 half is for the family and the other is for my black lab and terrier. They are shitting machines, and no matter how well i clean their side by picking up the dirt, hosing it down and using dissinfectant , IT STINKS TERRIBLE. I would like to buy a few strong smelling trees or plants to drown out the smell. I heard "lavender" is good, Whats the best smelling outdoor tree or plant, maybe something i can plant or pot, doesnt matter.

Santolina is a grey leaved plant with yellow flowers that is quite stinky. Grown as an ornamental herb. The cats where I live poop all over the garden, except in the ideal sandy spot next to the santolina.

Garlic bothers most animals noses...But is might be something to tuck into the corners of a planting which is mostly woodier, sturdier plants.

Oh I see I misread the question! You want something that smells nice to humans.

Some roses.

Yeah, lavender is good. Mock orange (Philadelphus) gets really big and smells great for about 3 weeks when in bloom.

Mint is great if you keep it contained (in a pot). If you don't, it will take over your yard. REALLY!!! If your dogs are in a penned area and it's in the sun, it might be cool to let the mint go crazy in there. It would release the scent every time they walk on it. You don't smell the mint, however, when you just walk by it. Rosemary is better for that or something flowering like Nicotiana-Fragrant Cloud, which has an amazingly beautiful scent in the evening.

Night scented stock is an annual, but real easy to grow.
The person who suggested kitty litter obviously doesn't have a dog....cos most dogs..after they have poohed scratch..as you will know...and the cat litter goes EVERYWHERE. I have a concreted yard, and my two terriers do use it..but it doesn't smell that bad.
I have a dog and a *****, and the dog's urine smells more than his poo, perhaps this is your problem as well
I wonder if catmint might do the trick..

Lippia citriodora. It's a bush that smells even more stronger than rosemary or lavender.

Lemon Balm is good,

It can spread but if you keep it contained it is good. If you cut it or hit it with a stick it smells lovely.

You can also put the leaves in a cup and make lemon tea.
