When I start my mower it has to be choked obviously but then I had to keep it a little choked so it wouldn't stall out. Now I have to run it at full choke or it will stall out. Seems to be getting worse, is there a way I can increase the throttle or is there something else i can do so i don't have to choke it so badly? I also just filled it up with regular unleaded (which I always use)and now it's running weird. Is there to much gas or is there a problem with the fuel pump or what is it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please answer in detail cause i'm not the best engine guy. Thanks for you help ahead or time.

If your lawnmower has a fuel filter on it,change it, also put a new air filter on it and while it's off get a can of gunk carburator cleaner and start the lawnmower and spray the carb cleaner into the carb while at full throttle until the engine almost dies out then once it runs ok again, do the same thing a couple more times and see if it helps your problem.

The air gap is not a critical measurement so long as there is a gap. With the magnets adjacent to the coil the gap should be set. I don't think that you can install the coil upside down or at least you can't on my Kohler engine. You did not mess up the timing. You would have to remove the flywheel to effect the timing. I would check the spark with the new coil. If you are not getting spark, disconnect the ground wire from the coil and try it again. Most often when a coil is bad they quit completly when they get hot not just make the engine run bad. You could be working on the wrong problem. The first thing to do is determine if you have spark with the new coil.

Let me guess.
Briggs and stratton 12 HP V twin.

On the bottom of the carburetor is a 12 volt fuel shut off solenoid.
Use an open end wrench to remove it after you unplug it from the wire.

The little steel plunger should easily move in and out by pushing on it with your finger.
You may need to spray it with carburetor cleaner to get the rust and crap off it before it moves freely.

Put it back in, connect the wire, and try it again.

There could also be some water in the bottom of the carbretor that you should let drain out while the solenoid is off.

U probably have a partial blockage in the main jet - Unless the fuel went bad from sitting a long time-IF the carburetor is loose ,u will have the same effect. or the carb just needs 2 b cleaned - & that takes a VERY SMALL piece of wire or torch tip cleaners 2 unblock the main jet after the carb is removed !

My dads Craftsman 46inch 1998yr Garden tractor is preforming the same way... Second year to use little bit of choke to make it run so it wont miss when running,(and that is in PTO mode and no PTO)...Sears came out last year to service tractor, cost dad 100.00 bucks for the call, and whatever extra for the parts and still runs not right.... Service tech said he would come back out and try replacing some seal, but dad didnt know what one... Well to make a long story short Sears never came back! and Dad said he called him several times, but no return call.... So not sure what to do next, seems like there are several things to try, as mentioned above, I even saw on Youtube that maybe the adjustment of the Overhead Valves could be out of adjustment... WHo knows??

That indicates lean fuel mixture. Probably a partially clogged fuel line or carburetor jet. May just be crud in the gas.

i've had the same problem twice before after doing all the above things and changing the spark plug it turned out to be the coil. which is under the cover on top of the engine.

Maybe your choke plate is in the wrong position, and full choke really means it is wide open. ~
