Nobody cared about sudoku while it was still called Number Squares. But tack a Japanese name onto it, and it's wildly popular! Another example is the whole anime/manga craze. WHY?

I have NOTHING against Japan, or any other country for that matter, but what's wrong with being American? It seems to me like the main attitude is that the U.S. is dumb and all other countries are better. This is NOT the case! We are at least equals, right?!

Why is it cool to trash talk your own country and say you like someone else's better? It makes me sad.

One example doesn't constitute an obsession. I think the other way around would be more accurate, "why is Japan so obsessed with all this American."

Not sure. I guess America doesn't expose a lot of foreign music in general. But that's a lot of countries. You would have to dig around for a particular style of music. But I listen to Japanese singers all of the time, or Japanese songs :) Have a Japanese section on my ipod anyway! Good groups/artists I know about: Utada, Hikari; Aqua Time (band), Mai Kuraki, Deen or Din (band) Some I thought were Japanese were actually Korean (they sung some Japanese songs!), like BoA Yes, I am one of those people who got into the music due to watching some of the Anime of the Japanese. Plus, with a lot of Asian friends I got exposed to music of the Hmong, Indian, Japanese, and Korean. I definitely think there should be more Japanese songs exposed out here. :) But the only concern of course would be the language! Again, it's like asking Mexico to expose more Bangladesh music. People would have a hard time understanding a foreign language they know about. In America, at least Spanish music gets popular (Spanish is one of the fastest growing languages here) so that's understandable. Otherwise, I wish more Japanese or Japanese-Americans would be in the mainstream to give influence of their music just like Hispanics or Latinos do (like Pitbull, J-Lo, Shakira....although many do hip hop, pop, and even R&B--genres popular in the USA--they still do other songs catering to their culture I am sure..well a few of them!) Hope this helped :)

My sweet child. You should be so distresses over something so small. It's okay to take ideas from other counrties. Sudoku is a fun game no matter what it's called.
