Embrace it--it's liberating to know that you are no longer living a lie.

YOU are NOT Alone!! I was pretty much raised in a conservative surrounding, so it is my natural leaning. Recently, (last 12 years or so) people that have actually examined matters have come to the conclusion that being part of the left has been of no benefit, just promises and lies. Two who were very very left are now staunchly on the right. Jessie, a flight engineer (black guy 1st Lt.) told me that he was always taught that conservatives were basically evil, and he believed it until he got to know some. Once he figured out that conservatives were anything but evil, he slowly began to see the truth, neither black nor white nor Republican nor Democrat is how he puts it. Uke is from Hawaii and is now on the right, he was so far left he says that prayed for Reagan to die when he got shot! Now the dude is just the opposite!

Follow what you know is right to you. No one else is in the booth voting with you, and if it is better for you, no one says you have to advertise your feelings!

I'm a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

I had a similar experience. I say be yourself, and if that makes you a conservative, so be it. Never deny who you are, it would be like denying your race or religion. I too was a liberal. I still have some liberal views, but now I have many conservative views which makes me a unique creature. I'm a democrat who is going to vote for Republican Ron Paul.

Poo poop dee doo............

First of all......... You are not a traitor to your race if you truly feel the way you have expressed yourself here.

You say that every issue that you agree with are Republican?

Does that include riding in the back of buses and the front cars of coal fueled locomotives? (The Jim Crow Laws) Those were principals of the Republican Party leadership in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Are conservatives good people? It doesn't make one bad because they are greedy............just selfish and self-centered.

There's nothing wrong with privatized education. It worked very well in the 12th through 18th centuries.

And building fences can be a good thing. It promotes social inter-action and decreases the number of social introverts in our country. IE: "Good fences make good neighbors."

I can understand you having not partied with the rich if you grew up poor. You didn't have coke money and wouldn't have fit in.

And if you find out that you ARE a conservative, don't worry..... therapy is bountiful today thanks to liberal progressive undertakings. Confused thoughts can be corrected.

what kind of issues make you feel like you might be a conservative? taxes? gay rights? abortion? size of government? foreign policy? law enforcement?

The thing is a lot of stuff conservatives tout is just rhetoric and they aren't really much better than the liberals about. Plus, there are such things as moderates and Conservative Democrats.
I support a border fence myself and I'm a liberal Democrat.
As far as privatizing education, I think it's a terrible idea, but I don't think it's an evil one. Just a non-beneficial one.

well I am a conservative, and I didnt really care about politics until I served in the marines in Somalia. There is nothing wrong with being a black conservative. Hell some of the black guys in my unit from the south wore cowboy hats and lined danced. Dont classify yourself by a race. And dont worry about being called uncle tom. Some blacks think being success is selling out, which I think is total bull. Go with what you think is true. btw, not all of us conservatives are religious.

Forget about the labels "liberal" and "conservative." Decide what you believe one issue at a time and let the chips fall as they will. If you really need a label, check into libertarianism--maybe you'll find a home there.

Join the rest of us that have found out that the democrats take advantage of our vote and don't deliver the things we want and need.

I too followed my father's way of thinking and therefore was a democrat for a long period of time

As I grew I found out that I liked keeping more of my money in my pocket as oppose to giving it to someone else.

You will be called many things by many different people, but you must ultimately decide if you want to be true to yourself or continue the lies as told by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton two of the biggest race pimps known to America.

I found out I wanted a strong military becase I like the way we live here in American and if we don't continue with a strong military, eventually we will be taken down and our way of life will change for ever.

I found out I was working on a daily basis, feeding and providing shelter for my wife, children and family. I was also supplementing others for not working and it was not because they could not work, it was because they did not want to work. I don't mind giving a hand up but to continue to need that hand up raises my taxes and I wind up paying for your sexual habits and paying for them to continue to have children.

I also like the idea that the more people that work the more the taxes are spread out and the lower they are. I am a firm believer that small businessess must be allowed to have a chance to exist since they hire a majority of the working people today.

I welcome you to the real world of politics, you have seen what is going on so follow your guts see what really happens between the parties.

It is not a pretty picture.

The republican party championed black rights long long ago. As a matter of fact the republican party of Texas was started by black Americans. Not the black Republican Party but the Republican Party of Texas.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

they are people just like you and me - you live in the states your free to believe whatever you want - I believe the two party system is not working right now and i would bet a dollar that if somebody took some of the view points of dems and some of the view points of repubs they would win the next election - I believe in the following - get rid of as many illegals as possible - secure the borders - universal healthcare - protect the environment - find new sources for energy - low taxes (reduce military spending)- end Iraq - right to life - small decentralized fed government- stronger local govt - restructuring of US economy - tax corporations equally across the board - end lobbying by groups and make individuals write their congressman or grouops encourage other individuals to write to make sure individuals rights and needs are represented - why should congressman get all the payoffs from corporations when they could go directly to citizens -my list goes on and on you get my drift -remember as they say in new hampshire live free or die- and to great american that is nt what the republican party is today and i am not sure it ever was -great propaganda though
