Resetting the router will only change the settings back to defaults, it will not set the firmware to default.
Once your firmware is corrupt or you have put the wrong firmware on a router the ONLY option is to send it to the manufacturer to have the flash chip removed and a new one installed. Sorry.....

Updating the firmware on the home grade routers can be frustrating because they are not really designed to do this easily.
First, I hope you were connected via wired connection when you upgraded firmware. If not you may be in deep trouble.
Secondly, your router configuration was probably reset to default conditions when you upgraded firmware.
The problem is not likely the firmware, it is likely the way you upgraded it.
Now for the fix. Make sure you have a straight CAT 5 cable connected from pc to router LAN port. Give your LAN port a static IP of 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.1; no need to worry about DNS.
Open Command Prompt (start - run, type in cmd and hit enter). Type in "ping 192.168.1.1" not including quotes and with a space before the ip address and hit enter. You should receive 4 posiltive responses. If not, are you sure the router IP should be 192.168.1.1 as it may be 192.168.0.1? Check this out and change the static IP to 192.168.0.2 and default gateway of pc to 192.168.0.1 and try to ping default gateway ip. If this does not work, get the router manual and see how to factory reset it (usually a reset button or similar step) and see what the default IP address, user name, and password are. Set properly and try the ping. If unsuccessful at this point, you may have fouled up loading the firmware and it just cannot recover itself. These units do not have a console port so you probably cannot telnet in and program via command line and you may need to buy a replacement. I would contact the maker and see what he says at this time; after all your detective work he may well replace it at a very attractive price.
If you need more help, please write again and tell us what you did.

If the two laptops stop engaged on the comparable time then of course there's a undertaking with the router/modem or the internet connection. much less in all hazard (yet attainable) is interference from a neighbouring instantaneous community. i could verify with your provider provider. they are able to remotely verify your modem for faults and propose no remember if the internet connection is at fault. you do no longer choose for a firewall in case you have already got a router this has a miles better equipped in firewall via way for NAT (community handle translation) . So turn all utility firewalls off (which comprise domicile windows very own firewall, AVG and zone alarm) as they'd conflict. If the concern takes place back, try those steps a million) try connecting by ethernet cable via plugging between the laptops to the router and notice in case you get the internet, this could see if there is instantaneous undertaking 2) try pulling the ability from the modem for 20s and then enable to reboot the modem, in case you could now connect the concern is with the modem section 3) in case you have a separate router do the comparable as 2) in this manner you've the skill to slender down the fault.

Have you tried holding the reset button down to see if it will reset. There is a small reset on the back, hold it down for 15 seconds and release wait for all the lights to "settle" and see if you can reach it. That will reset factory defaults.
If you loaded an incorrect firmware load this may not correct the issue.
Good Luck.

Restore your computer to a date when it was working fine. This will roll back all the drivers and installed programs to that date.
Use System Restore to Undo Changes if Problems Occur
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx
Through Help and Support:
1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2.Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
3.Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Through the All Programs menu:
1.Click Start.
2.Point to All Programs.
3.Point to Accessories.
4.Point to System Tools.
5.Click System Restore.
6.Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable. If something goes wrong, you select the restore point you just created and Windows XP undoes any system changes made since that time.
Create a Restore Point
1.Open System Restore. (See step-by-step instructions above.)
2.Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
3.In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point as seen in Figure 1 below. System Restore automatically adds the date and time that this Restore Point is created.

I think your best bet would be to start at

and look for online tech help. I had an absolute HORRIBLE time resetting up a fairly new D-Link Router; the CD setup, the manual, and the fone tech all said different things!
