This will work ONLY if the airplane has internet service provided for its passengers. If they have such provided, it is most likely the same access method as any wireless hot spot or wireless cafe. Configure your pc's wireless port to obtain an IP address automatically and all will work.

I did not know any airline was offering Internet service to passengers but I have not been following that either.

You will NOT be able to access ground based wireless hot spots while in the air - your distance is way too far.

I fly frequently, and have a laptop. Aren't you instructed to leave off certain device while in-flight; like for instance --cellphones!! You can not access the internet unless offered by the airline. And make sure you bring your American Express Card; you'll need it to pay the rates and they are horrendous! A second mortgage on your house may be needed, it's that expensive right now. Rumor has it that it will come down next year with better service and rates. As I said; a rumor so far.

contrary to what that one answer says u will be able to interface with the ground. now u may or may not be able to pick up the internet from the ground but wireless is wireless any internet service on the airplane if there is one offered by airlines would allow u to talk to some one that has a pc with no wireless. like the www stands for world wide web. if u cant say chat to a buddy with a pc on the ground then its not true internet.but any signal u do pic up if u do try to talk with someone on the ground or send them a pic of the clouds. the signal is going to be unstable not just because of distance also because ur moving away from them.
