I mean seriously, I think if women took some cooking classes instead of math classes it would really benefit our society. This would make sure that no woman graduates high school without knowing how to cook and give her the math she'll need by using measuring cups while following the recipes. By doing the grocery shopping as well as running other errands she will learn math by adding price tags together. This is pretty much all the math they should need.

true very true. But I wouldn't limit that to the girls.

Ofcourse they will need math to figure out how much child support they are entitled to when they don't feel like cooking for you

For one thing, women aren't the only ones who need to know how to cook. That's a basic requirement for everyone. Living in your perfect world, how will single men ever eat? Will they go out to eat all the time, or go home to mother? Also, if cooking and grocery shopping is all the math a woman needs, what about the childless widow? How will she be able to maintain a budget and take care of the household finances?

I will say this about women and math. When I was in school, I never learned a thing from any of my teachers or professors. They were too slow for my brain. When I was in kindergarden, and the only thing we were learning was how to add basic numbers, I taught my older brother how to do algebra. By the time I got to algebra, a female friend and I sat next to each other in class. When we had tests, we would race to see who finished first. Every time, we'd finish at the same time and every time, we'd have the exact same score. If we ever got anything wrong, which was rare, they were always the same problems. The teacher thought we were cheating so we were separated. Even so, we always finished our tests at the same time and got the same score. Even in college, I still learned too fast for the professer. I had just gotten to the point that I couldn't learn from a verbal explanation. I could easily learn from a book.

One final question for you, should a woman who is as gifted as I am be denied learning more about a subject you think is unnecessary for a woman to learn?

That is crap!
Women aren't the only ones that can cook!
Everyone should take math!
If women were the only ones who could be in a kitchen then how would a lonely guy like you ever eat?
I know plenty of women who have achieved great things!
My sister just went to the international science fair and got in the top five!
She just took her major tests and scored the best in all of her class!
She scored high than her boyfriend.
She is extremely bright, but she can only use the microwave and cook macaroni and cheese from a box.
She has no interest in cooking.
She puts her time into other things.
Her friend -a girl- just graduated at the top of her class.
I'm not saying girls are the only smart ones, I'm just saying the kitchen is not every woman place.
Women go to college, we succeed in life.
We run for president, we are doctors, we are lawyers.
For some they choose to be homemakers...that is wonderful.
It is very hard to run a household!
They cook, clean, they pay the bills, they sew...it is very hard.
I do however believe that it is harder to be a woman than to be a man!
All people are created equal!!!

Now, Sandstorm, you haven't been out of school that long.

Forgotten Home Ec so soon?

Bases already covered, Son.

If you were a student who graduated High School in the US, you should be able to sew on a button and fix yourself a meal.

I needed some accounting. Took it in college. Good darn thing too as in 14 years of marriage he only handled the checkbook for a three month period while I dealt with my cancer. 12 weeks into it we were getting foreclosure notices. I had to make the decision to forego PT and go back to work, and took the finances back. That's the only time in the last 30 years anyone else has handled my finances.

Everyone should know how to handle money. Money is a major cause cited for marital discord. Not knowing the value of money causes a lot a breakups. So, I'd say, learn to cook and how to handle money.

And one of my best friends from HS is an Engineer. She took calculus. She's a better man than I...lol

Sandstorm, Dear, I so do wish I would have known you years ago before I spent all those years of hard work slaving over my Algebra, Advanced Algebra, Calulus, Problem Solving, and Trigonometry Classes that I took in College and got A's on. You are so right! I am being perfectly honest about this!!I went on to be a lowly Accountant and all of this was such a waste of my little "ole" woman's brain and now that I am retired (at a young age), I am sitting around looking kind of cute (but old) and just buying groceries and cooking and everything like you just wrote. Where was my daddy and brothers and uncles when I needed this good old fashioned manly talk? Where were you, Sandstorm!!!!

Well, knowing how to cook never hurts. I'm not american, btw, and girls in my country had required cooking, sewing and housekeeping class in middle school from age 10 till 15. I loved it. Very usefull. BUT: boys had to learn carpenting, plumbing etc - you get the idea. So that no man could graduate from high school without knowing how to fix a leaking toilet :)

Every thing comes at its price :)

Well, this is fine if they are not planning to do anything requiring a higher degree, like science. Or, for that matter, planning to homeschool their kids.
I think that all the levels of math/other skills should be available to anyone who wants to pursue them (not in a free, socialist way however) and women should NOT be restricted to only learning how to run a home.

But, I do think cooking/shopping are VERY useful skills to learn, for men as well as women, but admittedly women are more likely to use them the most.

My mom is teaching me and my sisters (and my brothers) to cook and shop, so now I can basically cook anything as long as I have a recipe... Dad says I will be a catch :D :D

*Wow, *Tinkz* sounds very.... um... volatile.
I don't get how she thinks women are the superior species... uh, hello, we couldn't carry the young if it weren't for the guys, RIGHT?
I thought the whole point of feminism started out to be that women were EQUALLY as good as men... NOT BETTER!

WE ARE EQUALS PEOPLE!!! BOTH ARE IMPORTANT AND NEITHER WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT THE OTHER!! WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT THAT!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!

grr...

No
I've gained far more knowledge obtaining a Bachelor of Business degree in new country, in a foreign language, with a new born baby & abusive, controling & cheating husband.

The task of grocery shopping is far too challenging & complicated for males with all the planning & budgeting.

In your scenario it would be hard to run all those errands and cook all the time for you men.... you forgot to mention that we are all "Barefoot and Pregnant".

I don't see where men really need math either, the football scores are displayed on the screen when someone scores.. they add it for you.

math isn't just figuring out how to use measuring cups and reading. and y should women just cook. y not men too? so yea women should take math and if they like to cook (i guess) they should take a cooking class.

You are actually quite correct.

The school my children goes too encourages all children (including boys) to particpate in cooking and shopping.

It helps them learn fractions amoung other things....
