~At least 512MB or higher
~Include CD-RW (DVD-RW would be a perk)

It's hard to get a premade PC with XP on it, so Ebay really is your best bet, but you're not going to get anything decent for playing games with a monitor at that price. 512MB RAM isn't going to run any new games well at all. Now, if all you want is a computer that can run a couple of years old games, look for an AMD Athlon 64, or Athlon X2. Try to eigher get a 3800+ or better for regular Athlon 64, or 4600+ or better for X2. Look for a 6600/6800GT. 6800GT is better, but you might have trouble finding that. Also look for a Gig of RAM. It'll be very hard to find one with a bundeled monitor, but you could probably get that for $450 (with shipping included in price) and then get a 17 inch monitor for less than $150 (also including shipping).

I like the best deal myself--I bought my last 2 pcs at Office Depot(they had the best pc for the best price. I dont shop by brand-I get the most computing power for the least money I can find. Most all brands use either AMD or intel processors. Most people get windows operating systems--this is good because more people can help you. The newer ones with ddr2 ram are good because its cheaper to add more ram in the future. Ram is very easy to add, almost anyone can do it. Video cards are easy to add as well--you just plug them into your motherboard. Go to Pricewatch.com they have many pcs and add-ons to give you an idea of price. Its also good to buy it locally-no shipping charge. A desktop will give you more for your money than a laptop and is cheaper and easier to upgrade. Hope this helped!

This is just my small 2 cents, but in todays computers if I were you, I would go with at least a Gig of RAM.!! 512 MB is already quite small in todays world. I bought my computer just 2 years ago, and wanted it to perform faster, found out it was the RAM, with 512.!! I now have 3 Gig and it performs very well !!!! I hope this helps!!
