I normally have pretty long periods (6-8 days) and towards the end they get very light, which is what i have right now. I tried inserting a tampon, but it hurt. Could it be that my flow isn't heavy enough right now? I'm going swimming soon (if i can get the tampon in) so any help is welcome! And, i'm using my moms, which have no applicator and seem small enough to me, the brand is ab. Thanks!

If it hurts you might not be getting the right angel. They don't go straight in, they go on a slight angle maybe 45 degrees - tilted towards you. Relax when you are trying to put it in and make sure you push it in far enough. If it isn't high enough it will fall out and also could cause pain. If it is an OB type your whole finger should just about be inside of you if you got it in enough.

Good luck and it is worth trying to do because it gives you so much more freedom like going swimming.

Hey.. don't worry I'm here for ya!!
So... lets start out with some info. You might want to use a tampon with an applicator because its waay easier. You should use Playtex Silk Glide because its easier unlike the Tampax which are big and heavy. Ok..so..
1) Go into your bathroom. (Use a light tampon if your period is CURRENTLY light. ) Take the tampon out of the box.
2) Locate your "hole" and if you need help or its easier with a mirror.. go ahead and use it my friend! =)
3) Relax. Take the deepest breath you have ever taken. Tampons help you.. not destroy you! If you get tensed up, your muscles will tighten which will make is really hard.
4) Put your thumb and middle finger on the finger grips on the applicator. Make sure the tampon is "kind of" out of the applicator so that the string is showing.
5) Angle the tampon so that it is torward the "small of your back" where your kidneys are.
6) Begin to slowly push the tampon in until your thumb and middle finger touch your body. deep breath again!
7) Now.. with your pointer finger gently push the tampon (the place where the string was coming out the end of that) in.
8) Once you've pushed it all the way in, gently slide the applicator out.
9) You're done!! Yay! Wasn't that easy!!
If you are having trouble pushing it in, put some KY Jelly on the tip of the applicator. Good luck.. Hope this helps!! (Also.. if you are still not comfortable.. ask your mom.. she can help! And me.. I'm also here! Good Luck my friend!

1] get a tampon, a mirror, and a jar of vaseline
2] go in bathroom and lock the door
3] take off pants and panties
4] put mirror on floor, and squat over it
5] put vaseline on end of tampon
6] insert at 45 degree angle, aiming at small of back
7] push in as far as it will go - your finger should be two knuckles in before you remove the finger.
TA-DAAH!
