4 high class ladies who know nothing

2007-06-16 08:13:40 · answer #1 · answered by Henry_Tee 7 · 2 3

We see the 4 Elements of the Human being.

The 3 is a number of perfection, or understanding, which we see nesting before the faux naive youth that is the Sphinx around the table.

(One Human is composed of the 4 elements. Given the underdeveloped nature of many, it may be more than one human's being is here represented: no matter).

The animals over the heads are pretty much simple emblems of the air, fire, earth, water reading left to right around the table. They do indicate something of the particular articulation of said elements. (eg. a bull might represent earth, a raven, air, a tornado, water...I leave that to your ingeneum to comprehend).

Mercury upon the water urn would indicate communication, or evolution of the soul (eg. the higher aspect of the spirit may commune upon/communicate with the lower aspect of the soul; or the individuality might be said to influx input into the personality as currently developed/ing).

The 7 fold flower, 6 petals plus a central cup, would possibly indicate the social development which is concommitant with the refinemwent of the individual, not much of which seems to be going on. Why, again, I leave to another to interpret, as do I the shorn tree stump used, and the red flowers to the left, and the conifer (which may be a key to the whole) in the background.

That the scene is cloistered in the open is also suggestive of certain approaches to existential problema.

The girls represent from left to right : air, fire, earth and water. The chalice on the center has the sign of mercury. From top to bottom the soul (crescent), spirit (circle) and cross (matter). The colours on clothes white for innocence, red for blood and fire , yellow for life and black, for death. The animals are connected to the elements a bird for air, the stag I don't know why is connected to fire or the squirrel, but the fish is connected to water. Children represent innocence and the bee the society. The symbols are alchemical representations. Who is the artist?

It might have to do w/ the 4 elements, look at their chest and you see symbols, as well as on the cup, the animals could be additional symbols.

I really like it, something strangely innocent yet haunting about it. I cant really say because I would have to madly observe and analyze it to come to my own conclusion about what it means ;)
