The president, though, has backed away from his veto threat of the politically sensitive bill to fund veterans' programs. It exceeds Bush's request by $4 billion, or 7 percent, but the president acquiesced when GOP lawmakers made it clear that with troops overseas, they were not interested in squaring off with Democrats over spending for veterans.

So Bush was going to cut spending for veterans until the lap dog republicans intervened.

Another sly way the dims try to put a bad light on the president!! i am a veteran and support funding for all vets..64.7 billion is a lot of money!! If you look over the bill, their is probably some pork, attached!! The Pres supports the troops all the way,but as an administrator you have to be a little fiscally responsible! I applaud the rep from Texas on his pledge to support our vets with this bill

But if they're lap dogs, then why did they intervene? Actually, it's the libs who have perfected the lap dog sycophant mentality. Look at their idol worship of the Clintons. Look how they fawn over Algore when he spews that junk science about the end of the world in 15 years crap. Your friends actually fall for that?

I think Bush overall supports the troops. However, I think we need to increase the millitary pay so troops don't have to worry so much about there familys and bills.

yea your right sending all those troops in Iraq to solve problems that do not concern them...the army is not an army anymore, Bush is now using them as his slaves to do whatever he wants and as commander and chief he should care a lot more about the lives of the American troops. He's a jackass he has done more harm to this country than a serial killer to his victim...he is the serial killer...we are the victims...hope i could help

What liar have you been talking to that makes you ignorant to the truth? Without any links or web sites (most of which are liberal lies anyway) you have no case and it makes you look like a fool. You don't need to be that way. Research on your own and always check your references.
