My friend just got a new computer and wants to transfer her songs (around 2000) from her desktop to her laptop without having to back them up to a CD or re-downloading them. Is there a cord she can buy? If so, is there some software she needs with it?

Putting them on a flash drive would probably be much easier, fast, and fairly cheap as you can then use it whenever you want to transfer files or backup information. I've had mine for almost a year, have had no problems with it whatsoever.

She can buy a special USB cord to transfer the data. I got mine from WalMart for about $20. It was fast and easy to install and transfer the info. It's made by APC and it's called a USB 2.0 File Transfer Cable. It'll come with a CD containing drivers.

Hope I've helped.

She might be able to use a CAT4 crossover cable. But the best way would be to get a small router or either net switch and a couple of small CAT5 cables and set up a "Small Office or Home Network". Then she would be able to move files back and forth between the two machines any time she wished.
