I purchased 2 Platties last night. A male and female. They seem to spend their time at the bottom corner behind some decorations and plants for the whole time. Is this normal?

The female is hiding from the male. He needs at least one other female. Then things will become more relaxed.
All livebearer males need 2-3 females.

Yes, that is absolutely normal because it is a new environment for them and they also love freshwater plants
I would just recommend you getting another female
You are suppose to keep 1 male to 2-3 females in your tank, that way your male doesn't stress the 1 female you have

I agree. No matter what the reptile, fish or animal is. When brought to a new environment they will hide. Some hide when they are about ready to drop their young, but for 2 to hide...it must be the environment
