At around the age of 42, I started to have to wear reading glasses for close up work. Up until that time, I had perfect vision and was under the false impression that I would always have that. Then, because I am an avid reader, one day I noticed some words looked as though they were running together in one line. Then this became progressively worse. Anyway, today, at age 59, I am wearing reading glasses not only for reading but for anything that requires close up work. I hate them!!! I am still feeling fortunate, though, that I don't need to wear any other type of glasses. I have to remember to look for positives these days. haha

I wear both - Contacts when its a sunny day and I want to wear my shades or if I'm going out for the evening. I wear glasses when I can't be bothered to take the time to put the contacts in. I only started wearing contacts 2 years ago. I had 'bells palsy' twice and this affected my right eye and I sometimes have trouble getting one in it so if I'm in a hurry I don't bother with contacts. I had a roller skating accident when I was about 13 and damaged the optical nerve so had to start wearing glasses - because I was a kid I didn't realise how important it was that I actually wore them - so most of the time I didn't (too vain !).

Glasses for reading and driving or looking for someone in a crowd. As long as I can remember back I needed reading glasses I used to just hold the book a bit to close to my face in school and make sure I sat in the front because glasses aren't cool you know.
