someones has to teach them

Parents should do that. Boys and girls should learn how to clean and cook. Otherwise they will never learn how to take care of them self when they are older. Then it will just be second nature how to clean up after themselves.

My nieces are going to be 12 and they don't help out with the laundry and cleaning. If they were my kids they would be dusting and sweeping every weekend. That was my job at that age. They are also old enough to help with the dishes.

Yes and no. I am a parent, and I teach mine, and they also learn by example in the house cleaning part, and are responsible for their own rooms. The no part? I wasnt taught how to cook from my mom, I was taught the cleaning part. I learned the cooking on my own!!

They should! How else will they know. Besides, taking advantage of the extra hands is essential sometimes. My daughter's doing the dishes as I type this. She gets a generous allowance for helping around the house and has learned a lot about what things cost and adding taxes. She's grown a lot in that she can hold onto her money in order to decide how best to spend it. Plus, my house is clean! We all win!

Parents teach their children most things they learn, good and bad. My mother taught my brother and I how to clean as this was one of our weekend chores we had to do. I taught my daughters the same way. They learned to cook in my kitchen preparing certain meals and assisting with baking. They are both married now and have refined their skills themselves, but had that basic knowledge to begin with.

Do they? I have to say that a lot of parents don't. Children today are growing up with way too much freedom and not enough responsiblity. My stepson gets mad every single time he has to do a chore. He is spoiled rotten. My 2 year old cleans up better than he does.

Yes...I do. My kids started doing the dishes at 5, their own laundry when they were 12, mowing the lawn at 12, cooking around 10...and other types of cleaning around the house too...My mother did it all for me and I wanted my kids to learn responsibility.

I guess it is taught eventually, and they need to know (especially the boys), but I know some people who teach their children how to clean and cook just so they don't have to do it . . .

obviously not nowadays because these brats get there parents to do everything for them and in return they treat them like s*** with the exception of some. Lately I see these parents don't have a back bone and instead of telling the child "No!" they explain reasons why the child shouldn't do that. No respect anymore.

Yes, for the most part. Parents can give them the skills needed, but children tend to do what they want after leaving home anyway.
