You are mentally deranged. You are responsible for your child lady, not the dog.

I think it depends how dangerous it is, is it really likely to be dangerous to a child? or just give them a small bite. If it could kill or seriously hurt someone, then probably the right thing to do is to put it down. If it was just a small bite and it's not going to seriously hurt someone, then I think you should keep it, but get it very well trained. Or give it away.
Myself, I'm a vegetarian and I don't even kill sandflies, so I would have a hard time letting it be put down, I would give up my own life for my pets, but if it really is dangerous.... Can you ask the SPCA or a dog training organisation their opinion maybe?
p.s.
i agree with the other people also, if the kid was tormenting it, and it was just a small bite, then definitely not
also, has it been trained properly? if not, then I think you should try training it first.
But if it's seriously dangerous, and untrainable then you don't want to risk someone being killed, it's a little difficult to tell over yahoo =]

The dog should be tested for rabies. If the results are negative, then you have to find out how old is the child. In all fairness, children sometimes provoke a dog , then get bitten and blame it on the dog. If the dog is free of rabies and continues to bite children, then it's time to talk with the ASPCA and get their take on the matter before having a dog destroyed.

Well...
If it was a serious bite, and the dog belonged to the child's family... Yes, it would probably be safer to put it down. (At best, you could leave it in a kennel as well...)

once, i was attacked by this dog when i was 8. I ended up in the ER and had to get a staple in my leg. The dog was put down, and I was ok with that since I didn't want him to do that to anyone else

NO. The dog should be trained. He might be good, and if he doesn't have any previous records of biting a child, the child who got bit might have just scared the dog. Children these days don't know wtf to do around animals.

Put it down, unless the child had done something to provoke it

Put it down, inhumanely. Let it bleed to death in a bear snare. If a man bit a child, we would want him dead, why make special rules for DOGS?

So you think that if somebody made you mad and wouldn't leave YOU alone and you did something hurtful to them, that YOU should be put down? You shouldn't kill just because of one bite.
