Okay, so I'm going to be a sophomore in high school this coming up Fall, but I'm planning my life college/career/ect. wise right now, and I wanted to know how long it took to get an associates degree for social work? I've wanted to be a social worker since 4th grade so I don't think it's going to change any time soon, and I already looked up colleges and everything. I guess I'm pretty much just wondering how much time it would take...So any help would be great.

There is no associates degree in social work. The minimum degree needed in social work is a BSW. You can get associate degree in human service studies or something similar that should allow you to transfer to a 4 yr. program. In general an AA degree takes 2 years and an BSW will take you another 2 yrs. DA

First of all, there's no such thing as an Associates in Social Work. Community colleges don't have that major, they usually have something like Sociology or Human Services. Second, you *have* to have a Bachelors in Social Work just to get a min. social worker job, if not a Masters. Third, just because you've wanted to be something since you were a little kid doesn't mean you were meant for the job and that you'll like it. Don't waste thousands of dollars of college tuition paying to go into a career that you later find you absolutely hate. By the way, you would have to cram four 15-unit semesters to make it out in just 2 years, when it comes to getting your Associates (any major).

an associates degree only takes 2 years

but to actually work as a social worker, you have to have an undergraduate degree (it doesn't matter what you study, but something like social work, psychology, or sociology would probably make the most sense), and then you have to get a masters degree in social work. This should take about 2 years after finishing college.

Good luck.

I have NEVER in 56 years of life heard of a college that offers an ASSOCIATES DEGREE in social work.. You would have to acquire a 4 year degree in something like psychology or sociology and then get your MSW (master's degree) in order to be any kind of a social worker.... I worked for 5 years in the NYS Department of Social Services and interacted on a daily basis with the social workers there...as well as dealings with them on the County level....

computer engineering is out... if you are behind in math you would have to make up math classes for probably two years... social work would be okay... but the money isn't spectacular... plus it will take the same amount of time to get some degree in one of the others as it would take you to get a much better degree in psych. you are already so far in psych you should continue with that... a better degree in one place is better than a somewhat worthless degree in three things...

Most associate degree programs are two year programs. That is two traditional Sept-May school years. You could probably cram it all into 16 months if you found a school with year round programs and flexible schedules.
