so if i were to give her chew toys her tooth would grind down? I live on a farm, and going to the vet isn't exactly an option...how much do you pay to have her teeth cut?

Hun, please go to your vet and have her teeth trimmed. She is most likely in pain because of the sore. You also don't want to risk infection, so get her checked out.

Obviously, you are not supplying her with enough chew toys for her to munch on to keep her teeth filed. You also need to make sure you are providing enough hay for the fiber to help grind down her teeth.

Here are some items that are perfect for keeping the teeth from overgrowing:

Cardboard tubes from paper towels or toilet paper
Old telephone books
Cardboard box
Ball with a bell inside
An apple twig
Small pieces of untreated wood
Willow baskets
Stainless steel measuring cups
Stainless steel spoons
Tin cans (no sharp edges)
Oatmeal containers
Hand towels
Wire balls with bell inside
Golf balls
Cardboard boxes
Apple branches
Paper bags
Parrot toys
Dried out pine cones
Downey balls
News paper(no color)
Baby rattles
Wooden blocks
Metal bowls
Key-ring with keys
Lids from jars
A metal or plastic slinky

Hope this helps!

UPDATE: Since the tooth is now curled, you have no other option than to have a vet trim the tooth. I know it may be hard for you to get to a vet, however, she needs one!! Chew toys at this point will not fix the problem, it is too severe. They can actually make the situation worse because of the curvature of the tooth. Once you do have her tooth cut, THEN you can use chew toys to maintain the length. Our clinic charges $25 to trim teeth. Please get your girl to a vet, she is in pain and the condition could be fatal because it makes eating almost impossible. You also don't want the sore to abcess.

NOTE: When you bring your bun into the vet they will trim the teeth for you and show you how! Two for one deal!! Then, they can sell you a pair of trimmers and you will be all set :) Good luck! It really is not difficult to do yourself, although you will need a helper to hold your bun still for you.

Take her to the vet immediately. When you go to the vet, he or she will probably have to trim your rabbit's tooth back to a normal level.

If you live on a farm, there's a good chance that there is a farm animal vet nearby.... they usually make housecalls. I'm afraid it's going to HAVE to be an option in this case. No, do not try trimming your rabbit's teeth, yourself. That would be torture for the rabbit, and very likely, she would die from the shock of the trauma.

Call the local large animal vet and see if you can get a housecall... OR suck it up and take the bun to a vet... OR the rabbit will slowly die on its own for not being able to eat.

Have the vet show you how to trim her teeth. Her curled tooth is due to malocclusion (top and bottom teeth not meeting properly, so they don't wear down) NOT because you don't give her enough chew toys. You will need to trim her teeth regularly. This is not as bad as it sounds if you've been shown how to do it. Keep an eye on her weight, as she may have difficulty eating. I had a rabbit whose teeth were so misaligned that food fell out of his mouth. I had to peel carrots and feed it to him because he couldn't take a bite out of it.

As long as you make trimming teeth a regular task with nail trims and grooming, it shouldn't be a big deal.

well, what you could do for her tooth is you can go to a pet store that has a veteranian and tell them to cut her tooth, Cause i also have a rabbit and her teeth always grow and so i have to go and get them cut every once in a while. =)... i'm not so sure about the cut but you can go and get her checked up.

If you can't get to a vet you should at least call one and ask for someone's advice there. Both times when i called about my cat they gave me home remedies to try.
