I went to Russia for 3 weeks last summer. In that time, we took a "weekend" to Moscow. Trust me on this one: Stay in St. Petersburg. The Hermitage is worth it. So is Peterhov. Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral is good as well as St. Isaac's Cathedral (The locals know it by a different name, but there's like 1000 stairs to the top of the church and an AMAZING view.

If you have 2 days and just do those 4 things, you'll have felt your trip was well worth it. Taking 2 night trains to and from Moscow - although not a bad trip - just to see Lenin's tomb and St. Basil's cathedral is too smooshed. Make sure you see the Church on the Spilt blood though even just from the outside. It'll be similar enough to St. Basil's so that you won't feel like you missed too much. Do Moscow if you wish when you have a little more time.

You can travel from St Petersburgh to Moscow by overnight train - but it's about 10 hours each way. Or by plane, it's about 2 1/2 hours plus check-in time etc. So is it really worth the bother. There are things to see in Moscow, but plenty to fill two days in St Petersburgh, so probably best to make a special trip to Moscow next time

That's a rush and St. Petersburg is really worth extra time. But if you've just gotta go, take a night train from St. Pete. to moscow one night, spend the day in Moscow, then return on the night train again to St. Pete. Even a sleeper compartment on the night trains are cheaper than many hotels, so you should get a good night's sleep.

I went from Moscow to St Petersburg by coach, and that took us 9 hours. Im sure by train its faster, but in my experiance with Russia stick to St Petersburg. Moscow is not everything you may expect. The red square is not bustling with happiness its actual very organised fun and a little unfriendly. Where as St Petersburg there is a lighter atsmosphere and lots to see. Be careful thou if you take pictures of the amazing underground as i got fined. Have fun.

No. Moscow is too far away. I took the Holland America cruise to St. Petersburg and it was fabulous. Visit as many of the historic sites as possible.

Moscow is one of many biggest cities in the world. Is really a city that has developed quickly in recent years, and, consequently, comprises high-rise suburbs bordering a comparatively compact historic centre with plenty of exciting old architecture. The most crucial place of Moscow may be the Red Square that's been for generations, the heart and heart of Russia. Here, you can visit the Century St. Basil's Cathedral, one of the most popular pieces of architecture in the world and the constructivist pyramid of Lenin's Mausoleum. Red Square is definitely a wealthy place in symbols of Russia's turbulent and exciting past.

Yes, it is possible, but not worth it. You can take an overnight express train to Moscow and spend time there.

Still, St.Petersburg is a beautiful city that you can spend a week in and still not see everything. Plan on visting Moscow some other time

You could fly, but speaking from experience that can be kinda scary flying domestic in Russia. I suggest staying in St. Petersburg... there is a lot to see there. You could spend a whole day in the Hermitage and then go to Pushkin the next day to visit the Summer Palace.

Technically, yes. One day to get there and one to get back.

Quite frankly, St P is far more interesting and you'd be better off spending your time there.
