Well I use a laptop that does not have a surge protector, so in a storm I will disconnect my power plug, but that doesn't mean I have to stop using it.

It is always a good idea though to use the least electrical you can during a bad storm, unplug what you can and stay safe.

I do if the storm is really close. Some friends of mine's house got struck by lightning a couple of years back. It went straight through the phone line, blew up their receiver and burnt half their living room.

It really depends on whether or not you have a surge protector power strip like the one I've got. I suggest that next time there are extreme weather conditions outside, get a surge protected power strip.

And unplug it. Have you got surge protection? Even that won't help with lightening.

I try to, but if I don't it doesn';t matter because it will not turn on automatically after the power is restored, so it would never take a surge.
