Is a renewal of the "Fairness Doctrine" on the horizon?

What is it about equal time that scares neocons? Fairness is fairness and equal time means equal. Nobody wants to censor anybody. It's time to give somebody else a chance to answer all the lies and misrepresentations.

I agree with Trent Lott. He's a good leader and is helping to turn the dysfunctional senate into a real legislative body again. He is right about the divisive climate in this country generally and about talk radio as a major cause for it. I say this even though I'm a Democrat and did not like his racist comments of a few years ago. I wouldn't worry about talk radio being banned by an equal time law. Changes can be made without going to extremes.

I find this so amusing! For years, Dems/Libs have called Repubs names for years. Like Sen Reid the other evening blasting the Chief of Staff General. But oh, let someone on the air talk the same way about the Dems/Libs and they go nuts, demanding they be taken off the air!
Its about time the Dems/Libs get a taste of their own medicine, what goes around comes around I say. Maybe when the Libs start controlling their Anti Bush hate speech, then maybe right wing radio will back off them

OK Scruffycat by your reasoning, "Hey theyre not burning crosses on mY lawn let me do what they want"

Mr Lott made it sound as though this was some brand new phenomenon. The one measuring stick Ive learned works infalliby on DittoHead Drama is this: If Rush accuses or condemns Dems and Libs of something, you can BANK on the fact some Republican is about to get outed for the very same thing. But there will be explanations and excuses and rehab and "I was misled" and "I am not a crook" and the whole hypocritical soap opera.

Well, I have to agree with him some on this. However, my biggest gripe is with the citizens who listen to and actually BELIEVE all the crapola spewed from the mouths of these blowhards.

Many people seem to rely solely on these idiots for their news and opinions, without ever checking up on the information or doing an elementary "fact-check" on anything they say.

People just don't realize that these overblown, overpaid big-mouths are ENTERTAINERS-not political analysts. It's like watching a John Wayne movie to learn about the West... Now, I'm a Wayne fan, but that doesn't mean his movies are real.

Talk radio people are in it for the money, folks...they yadda-yadda for YOU, their fans, and they laugh all the way to the bank.

The fans have made these entertainers very, very wealthy by their slavish devotion to what they believe to be real.

It isn't real...... get over it ..... get a mind of your own.

I enjoy listening to Neal Boortz on my way to the office in the mornings and have no time to devote to the others.

Freedom is speech is a right that should never be taken away, regardless of how much people hate what is being said.

i think what he's talking about is dangerous whether you listen to talk radio or not.

the government needs to let the press be free.

EDIT:some of these answers make it obvious that people take their opinions of talk radio hosts (FACT:who's audience has been statistically proven to include more newspaper readers and news consumers than any other audience in all media) from MSNBC and CNN and other talk-radio COMPETITORS in the news media.

some of these answers are absurd. i dont agree with evrything limbaugh or any of these radio hosts say; but at least i can make that opinion after actually listening to them.

name one of limbaugh's lies, or obscenities, or fallacious statements.... you cant, because the majority of people who want radio hosts banned, tarred and feathered have taken their opinions from hack-jobs like keith olberman: a truly fair, unbiased, objective journalist of the highest calliber; whose always willing to debate with alternative voices.

(oh, and ive actually watched olberman - therefore i can say that he is an idiot.)

It is out of control. It is shallow, dismissive of complexities, and spews more crap dressed up as "facts" then any propaganda since Germany in the 30's. Broadcasters are acting irresponsible.

Out of control? I am not a right winger but reality is that this sounds more like he wants to implement censorship.

I don't agree with snivelling, cowering, politically correct politicians, no matter how pretty their hair is , or from what party they come. I'd rather have a sonofabitch with guts in congress, than a sanctimonious jelly-backed saint. Whether or not he thinks talk shows have gone left or right or too far either ways does not mean beans to me.
