I love the Trooping of the Colour. I love watching Mass Bands march and feeling that base drum thud. Their skill is huge, and takes a large amount of work. I can relate to this because I belong to a cadets type organisation, where I am a Warrent officer - CSMII - and as a Warrent Officer I have the pleasure of training our kids/members to do drill, hopefully to a high standard. While in this organisation myself as a child, I was part of a Battalion band and did indeed do all the different marching, while playing a trumpet, you can see today (except that circle thing!). More recently we competed in a drill compertition and so had to learn all the ceremonial forming type drill, and we often have to march past the colours and make sure they all understand why they all need to respect them.
As I grew up in the organisation mentioned above, I have seen how drill can have a huge effect on a person. While as a child we complained at having to do drill, drill teaches self respect and pride in oneself and our uniform, which we grow to learn as we get older. As a teacher I see how these important skills are missing in most of the youth today and how drill would benifit them.
So while all this pomp and ceremony seems to have no place today, it in fact, I feel, should have a more important place, then perhaps our society would be a very different place.

It's an excuse for pageantry--show-business Royal-style. England is known for its pomp and pageantry,so it's a good thing,in my opinion.Even though the Royals don't hold a lot of political power, they do put on a good show, and as Tina Brown says in her new tome, serve as a glue that joins past and present. Not many countries are able to do what England does;a country's past is important to remember and to celebrate the positive things in it is a plus.
I am an American and am aware of the views of some republican-minded thinkers across the pond;I'm from a republic, people, and you really do not want a republic--you're version is working because you do elect your Prime Minister and Parliament members, but you have the added panache of a monarchy which shouts out that your country has been around for quite awhile and is smart and aware.

I think it is fantastic, and I think the Queen is very proud of all her wonderful soldiers.
All these men would lay down their life's for their country, and that is no mean thing to do.
The UK compared to other countries is great, why do you think everyone wants to come here? PS I am Scottish and very proud of Britain, and Trooping the colour.

Bloody good show its not a waste of money in fact i believe it raises money from the ticket sales because your not paying the troops anymore than you would do.
i think its tradition and we have not alot left, the troops feel proud doing it nd remember for alot of these lads on parade after this they will have to go an fight in afganistan. i wonder what they would think if they read some of these answers to now that the people they fight to defend think there job is pointless

as a former soldier the chance to show your pride and dedication to your country should never been frowned upon especially when it doesnt involve going to another country to kill
and as for expense do you think the soldiers on parade are on overtime cause its a saturday, soldiers dont get overtime and never get the choice about when they work

Fine show... but who pays for it... if it is from the tax on the people... then stop it... It galls me to see the money waisted here in the US on the phony pomp for the president... can't emagin what all the fancy for the Queen costs.
