DO NOT IMMERSE YOUR LAPTOP. That would absolutely destroy it. Since it is not working, it will need to be taken to a professional to be opened up, dried and cleaned. Depending on where the coffee spilled, how much, etc., it may or may not be salvageable. Usually when the liquid is coffee, it is not repairable because you get not only the "wet", but the acid and the stickiness destroying your system.

Gosh I think you never heard of damage protection!
All laptop or notebook manufacturers offer damage protection against drops, falls, electrical surges & spills. You need to get a new one and this time think about getting damage insurance from the manufacturer.

I was pissed off with my Pager many years ago so I deliberately put it into a pot of scalding coffee. You should have heard it squeal! Didn't work after that so I took it to the workshop and told them it was sick.

I hope this will be a lesson to you. Computers do not mix with food or drink and if an accident happens as in your case it could be a very valuable lesson indeed.

Soaking it in water -- or any other liquid -- isn't likely to make it run better. Remember all those warnings about water and electricity not mixing?

It'd be just like dipping anything electronic underwater; it will short out and then be destroyed. Take it to someone and have them clean/repair it.
