why is everything so vague? should we really be able to say ANYTHING? and if not, then is it really free? that goes for the other personal freedoms too. has everything we hold dear really been an illusion all along? something for the citizen to ponder while the leadership is having their way with the economy and the country at large?

given the sheer amount of people in this country, cant please everybody, the system cant represent everybody either.

and for the people that say if it wasnt for free speech, id be in jail or dead for this.......then the illusion would shatter, and theyd have 300 million pissed off, self discipline lacking, slack jawed people probably lynching them.

Political correctness has nothing to do with the actual right of free speech. Being politically incorrect has social and/or economic consequences. You can say almost anything you want, but everyone around you reserves the right to disapprove of what you say or (in most cases) refuse to do business with you because of what you say.

Political Correctness is one of the scurges of this nation. It is, by definition, the opposite of truth, accuracy, and free speech. PC is used to blind people to truth, to hide things that politicians and activists want hidden, and to keep people from expressing their opinions. A good example is that many insist that "illegal immigrants" be called "undocumented workers". Why? To hide and downplay the illegality. White activists call Indians "Native Americans". Do you know what Indians call themselves? Indians.

This country should stop messing around and start identifying actual problems and developing actual solutions. Should we really care what the people who snuck into this country are called? Solve the problem so nobody gets in undocumented but people can still come here to work.

Political correctness is the attempt to erase bigotry and smallmindeness from our society in order to create a utopia in which to live. Yes this does limit freedom of speech. To be able to speak youk mind without pursecution is the freedom of speech. If we were to follow it thoroughly, then racist, sexist, and otherwise "unacceptable" comments are allowable by law. However, since all people are created equally, we must find a way to balance all our freedoms without diminishing the freedoms of another. Hence, political correctness.

Yes, political correctness has really damaged the free-flowing debate that used to constitute college life. It also harms political discourse. If someone is afraid to say what he or she really believes, we lose that input. We are the poorer for it.

The Political Left, who pushed for free speech in the Sixties, is now the worst offender in the political correctness movement.

I know some people who want political correctness to kill free speech. There are people out there trying to make certain words illegal. But people like me, and you I assume, and all people who really believe in freedom will fight them with to our last breath.

No. Turn off the Limbaugh Hannity Coulter radical republican christian fundamentalist axis of propaganda, grab a great book, or better yet, a book by a founding father, or Democracy In America by Tocqueville, read, and, relax.

i really don't see how being pc (which generally means considerate) will impact free speech.

if you mom has put on a few pounds, you can always call her fat-***, and it may even be accurate.

it's just not all that nice.

people who have a problem with being a little pc, are usually just mean spirited people who don't like feeling guilty - like people usually do when they are mean.
