Most of the time they are just ill tempered

Because alcohol is a POISON. Over time it wreaks havoc on almost every organ in the human body, ever notice that when alcoholics get to be a certain age THEY ALL RESEMBLE ONE ANOTHER? The restless tongues, licking the wrinkled toothless mouths, jerky head movements making them look like they're constantly being snapped back into the real world from some sort of waking dementia? Alcohol numbs the senses and rots the mind and body, when they're drinking, they can't believe the stupidity of those dumb enough not to BE THEM...When they're sober, they wish thy could be ANYONE ELSE...You'd be miserable too...

I am not sure that "most" alcoholics are ill-tempered miserable people there is a high percentage of people who live day to day "alcoholics" who somehow manage there life and live without many struggles, but then there are other people who just can't handle it and when they drink all hell breaks loose....who knows maybe its a biological/psychological thing?

Because they are usually unhappy people to begin with, which is why they became alcoholics in the first place. Plus, alcohol lowers inhibitions, so they don't try to not be mean, and their unhappiness comes out and is spewed at others.

Well you have to know which comes first, being miserable or being alcoholic. Some people are miserable so they turn to drinking. Others are alcoholic but don't consider themselves miserable. Go figure.
And some people are just miserable but never turn to alcohol (or drugs) or anything.

any addict isn't happy unless they are high- as the dopamine receptors in the brain are all messed up from the addiction (substance). They cannot :feel: anything unless they do the dope, and if they want the dope they are miserable until the get the dope. That is why its called DOPE cause you are a real DOPE to start doing it

With their inhibitions lowered, they will act as badly as they want to be. Being aware of this, I try to act and speak sober when I'm drunk. It works well; I'm less uptight while still being mindful and respectful of others.
