You asked for Republicans to answer, but something tells me you will award the best answer to a democrat.
Does anyone (other than the rare looney) say the abuse at Abu Ghraib was a good thing? Some may point out that it pailed in comparison to what Saddam did, but that is far from supporting the abuse.
And if someone did do such a thing to me, I'd want the people responsible punished, as our military has done.

But if there is a good reason for you to suspect my brother knows details of bombs set to go off & kill civilians, I would support tought tactics (just short of Abu Ghraib's) to get info out of him.
