You may need to clean your washing machine - there could be residue..I use one part alcohol to three parts water and let it cycle and rinse several times....also, don't use too much bleach and read the garment labels; some whites should not be washed w/bleach.
There is a product called "yellow out" it is usually found in grocery stores and do help take the yellowish Grey tint out of whites.

Wash them in just detergent first. Don't dry them, but take them out of your washer. Buy some bluing at the store (it is by the starch and other weird laundry things). Fill the washer with warm water and add bluing according to directions on the bottle. Make sure it is mixed in well and then put the whites back in and take them through the whole wash cycle again - no detergent - just the bluing.
My husband is a chef and I have to always try to find new ways to keep white things white and it can be such a challenge.
This bluing stuff works well - but isn't a cure all. If, after you wash the shirts, they are still really gray, I would only do half the bluing and if that works, do another round with half the bluing.
I have learned to never use any bleach but Clorox. Store and other brands are just not the same.

You can try BORAX in with your wash, it is a natural whitener. Chlorine bleach is simply horrible on your clothes. It deteriorates the fibers and not to mention the chlorine is bad for you!.I wash my whites with detergent, and add 1/2 cup Borax laundry booster and if they are really bad, also add Arm and Hammer WASHING soda. not baking soda. Also pour 1/4 cup white vinegar in with your rinse water. It removes detergent residue and naturally makes your clothes soft without fabric softener build up. You won't smell the vinegar once the clothes dry. Believe me, I have 2 kids and a husband that works in landscape design. I've seen all kinds of stains. Best of luck!

Get a water softener. It is the minerals in your water that cause the grey color. There is also a product on the market called "Yellow Out." This is great for using on clothes that have turned grey and yellow due to minerals in the water.

Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing... in the laundry aisle.... you add a few drops to the rinse cycle and the blue counteracts the yellow or gray dinginess in your white clothes.
One bottle costs a few dollars and will last forever.
