I think I'm more of the wind chime sort. I don't burst into flames when I enter a church, but my experiences with most religions (that are established enough to have church bells) makes me want to avoid the call of their bells. Still haven't found the place where I fit.
So... I guess I'll choose my breeze as wisely as possible and hopefully hear some truths ring out. Perhaps I'll get to church bells someday, but for now I am happy as a wind chime.

Disregarding any religious opinions,
I would rather be a wind chime. When I think of a church
bell I think of rigid time. The bell seems to impose some
law that at some time someone must do some specific
thing; the bell seems to have its own agenda which
doesn't bend to the conditions of the people it is
designed to serve. In contrast, the wind chime responds
to the forces for which it chimes, but when it chimes,
the forces which be are not expected to drop all
those forces which they are and pay heed to the
chime. The force and the chime are interactively
aware of each other, and neither restricts the other.

I love the sound of both; I was absolutely enchanted in San Miguel, (Mexico), when directly across the street from where I was staying, bells rang in the basilica just as the sky was beginning to flush, & the awakened birds took flight over the plaza like a great lace shawl. Wind chimes have many voices, all delicate, their "music" at the caprice of the wind.
Without considering that a church bell has to be rung & the timing is controlled, or that wind chimes have no voice without wind--I'd rather be a wind chime. I'd rather hang freely in space & "feel" the stirring of the wind playing with me like a musical instrument. I'm listening to mine right now, accompanied by whispering leaves. I've never known ANYONE who didn't like wind chimes.

Although I love wind chimes and church bells, I prefer to be a trumpet, the kind that gives wake up calls.

I prefer the simplicity of the wind chime to all the campaniles in the world.
[In my tradition we ring bells far more frequently than once a week, actually a minimum of seven times a day, three for the Angelus or Regina Coeli, once for rising (33 strokes) and once each for Matins, Vespers and Compline, as well as numerous other times depending on services and seasonal uses. There are places the Church bells ring on the quarter hour throughout the day. There are few things to compare to the grandeur of a full ring of bob major. We have a Russian Orthodox monastery nearby and their use of bells is similar, although tuning and tempo are different. A Church bell is a musical instrument and there are different ways in which it is played; a toll, a knell, a ring, an alarm, and a peal. Each means something different.]

Between the 2, Church Bell. Wind chimes piss people off and neighborhood kids sometimes take them out. On the other hand Church Bells are cogs in the machine of big religion. Can I just be an AIR RAID horn? Then at least I'm helping people out.

I would rather be a WIND CHIME. Because you know I am a freep-spirited person.....and if I were a church-bell then I'd be something religous and in a four-walled building. I believe in all religons.....but I'm religous. I respect all religons let's say. And I'd rather be a wind chime because they freely sway and sing in the wind.

There's something so ponderous, & ritualistic about a church bell. But I don't think I'd like to be bonged, or do they just pull on a rope or something?? Probably a wind chime.

I'd rather be a church bell.
I don't like being controlled by the caprice of the wind. I don't want to control nature either. I want to live within nature but I also want to at least have the illusion of making my own choices.
I don't really want to be a church bell either, but at least I only get my bell rung once a week and there's a nice view from up here.
