This is not about religion . Is scientific evidence available to find out why people do this?

Desperation, of course. Sort a last minute Pascal's Wager. You don't need a scientific study to figure that out.

"... over here we have group of dying patients who were observed to beg God for mercy. They are presently be interviewed by researchers as to their motives. To avoid experimenter bias, the researchers have not been informed about the previously held religious beliefs of the subjects ..."

They don't necessarily call God as a plea for help. Calling God is a form of blasphemy which has entered into the vernacular which is used in everyday speech, so its not unreasonable for people who are about to die to shout it. Also, atheists don't claim to have all the answers and I'm sure there's times when they do question their beliefs, especially on their deathbeds, which is a very traumatic time for anyone, and can cause anyone's beliefs to waver.

I'm an Atheist who's faced death more than once, and never yet have I asked for God. That'd be like getting really sick, and hoping that Dumbo will make you feel better with an air show outside your hospital window. If you don't believe, there's no One to call to. I'm not trying to offend anyone: I'm just pointing out that to me God is as fictional as the Disney character Dumbo.

Who are these Atheists you refer to?

Want to back that up with some facts? Because I've witnessed several atheist friends die, and neither called out for any sort of god. Cite a study, or stop spreading lies - if you need to lie to support your god, that's really a bad sign.

First of all, how do you know that they beg God for mercy while they are dieing? That doesn't seem to be a fact. You might want to look that one up first.
