Whenever you have to buy a present for someone, whether it is for a birthday, Christmas, or Mother's Day, what are some good things to get? A lot of people that I know, including myself, are sick of buying chocolate, flowers and perfume. Do people just expect these, or are there alternatives?

Money cards
Weekend get away (good bargains for out of season destinations)
Their favorite music dvd concerts or music tracks
Free movie & dinner tickets
Paid for gasoline cards
Grocery store gift certificates
Beauty Salon make over or hair appointment
Pedicures or tanning bed time paid
Local gym for workout sessions
Pre paid bus ticket
6 free hair cuts for dad
Free oil change & the works
Free custom cleaning of the car day
Free shampooing of carpets
Paid for paint job in home
Host a BBQ party for them
Concerts

Watch for local tv advertisements to save on items, destinations or bargain coupons (maybe in the back of the phone book) to help save you money while shopping.

Ask about airline ticket destinations, theme park discounts, etc. It will make you feel good because you did not break the bank and you had fun doing it.

Bottom line, it is practicle to utilize what someone will need or use for sure. I think it is lame and irresponsible to come up with something that you have no idea what they want and probably will never use ending up in a yard sale!

Find out what makes them tick, what they enjoy, what their life style is, do they collect things, etc., then it shoudl be real easy to find something that they will enjoy because it really is personal this time.

Of course there are alternatives, these ended up being popularized as the gifts to get. For Mother's Day this year I got my mom season five of "Murder She Wrote" (it was one of her favorites when it originally aired and still is a favorite in reruns). She also enjoys read so I've gotten her some novels and other books. I've gotten her some tapes and CDs of her favorite bands, some tapes of some of Cosby's comedy albums. One year I got her a set of Beanie Babies that were kinda like birthstone rings/braclets/earings/etc. but rather the Chinese zodiac animals for all of us in the family.

Get to know the people your giving gifts too (and undoubtedly you do) and you should be able to get some ideas what they would like.

for my dad's birthday i got him some crocs. They are $29.99 at the store. They are really comfortable. Or maybe if you have a date with a girl, buy them a sexy night gown dress and she will get the picture of you want to have fun with her while she is wearing that. Good luck on finding something.

Since Father's Day is tomorrow (June 17th) let's discuss gifts for dad. Of course, neck ties are out, unless it's from his alma mater. Then there are golf clubs, one year I gave my dad a subscription to "Golf Digest" and hid the first issue with a card in his golf bag. Use your imagination...
