I want to be able to make changes directly on the disc from other computers as well as my own

You have to format the cd-rw to a packet writer format to do that.
And the other computers will have to have packet writer
software also for this to work.
Then the cd-rw will act like a big floppy disk.

Once a CD-R is burned you can't alter the data. You can write more data to it if you left the burn "session" open when you made the disk. If you wish to transfer data between computers, a pen drive is the best method. Since it is actually just a little hard drive, it is readable/writable.

You should have formated the CD-RW disk first that's what makes it rewritable. Roxio and Nero have the feature in their software.
