I'm going on a family vacation this week and I'm supposed to get my period. I'm contemplating whether or not I want to skip my period by taking a new pack of BCs. Will this make me gain weight? Because I don't want to feel like crap on my vacation.

It won't make you gain weight, but just to warn you that starting a new pack to skip your period doesn't typically work right away. If you've already made a habit of it it works fine. But you haven't made it a habit and this would be the first new pack used to skip the period. Chances are you would still have light to medium bleeding and it wouldn't be worth it anyway. You can give it a shot if you like, but just be prepared to still have your period.

When you first start doing this, you may have a little spotting, but at least you won't have cramps. I've been doing 3 months "off," one month "on" for awhile now and have not gained any substantial weight. The one thing I have noticed is that depending what pill you are on, you may be susceptible to "breakthrough bleeding" more when you skip the inactive pills, but if you are really diligent about taking your pills EXACTLY on time, it shouldn't be a problem. I know it's easy to forget on vacation, thought!

You may be too late in trying to skip your period, you can end up experiencing breakthrough bleeding, and it will take a while for your cycle to get back on track with the pills once you are done with that week.

I did that once, and never ever again will I skip the fourth week pills.

It won't make you gain weight. It's perfectly fine to skip your period while taking 'the pill'. It could cause side effects like 'break through bleeding' or spotting, but if you're taking a monophasic pill (one that is all the same colour/dosage) you should be fine.

Use tampons and maybe a panty liner so it doesn´t leave any spots, nobody can see them, and if you´re going swimming, the water will temporarily stop your period up until about 30 minutes after you get out of the water. I don´t recommend the pill
