I was told to use vinegar to clean items in the tank if you get a lime build up and make sure everything is rinsed well.

I use a half a cap of condtioner for partial chages and when I do more I use a full cap. I have 2 10 gallons, 1-15 gallon and other small tanks.

do you follow the directions on the bottle?? did you clean the tank with soap?? if you did use soap, thats a big no no, but ive done that once and just rinsed and rinsed and rinsed try rinsing it 5-10 more times or if its bigger like a 55 use a garden hose for about 10-15 minutes and get under the black or wood trim seals on top of the tank really well. if you didnt use soap and you dont have a filter or anyform of water movement that could be it, if you just stir the tank with your hand or adding the declorinator after the tank is full and not agitating it you will see bubbles, hook your filter or powerhead up and wait about 2-3 hours and see what that does. if thats the case there wont be alot, but maybe a few larger bubbles, foam would be something else and you should ignore this post

Yes, you can over do it on some conditioners in the tank. I would recommend you only use a dechlorinator the removes chlorine and chloramines and avoid the products that promise to detoxify ammonia, help with the cycle, etc, etc.

Also, your tank isn't cycling without a source of ammonia, such as fish or fish food. Since you don't have fish yet, it's the perfect time for you to fishless cycle your tank. That will make it safe for your fish later own. Here's a link on how that works.

Hope that helps
