Pete Carroll by a mile!!!!! The fact that he put USC back on the map is amazing! Remember UCLA was the school of choice that all the top recruits in cali chose. . . .now he goes into any state that he wants to and steals the top recruit. . . . . . . And people dont give me this URBAN MEYER CRAP. . . when he wins with his own players that he recruited then you can put him in the arguement. . . . I live in UTAH and have met URBAN before and i can tell you that he is a FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!! His top recruit last year was Tebow????? A fat QB that just falls forward. . . . .yeah good luck florida. . . . once you start to lose you can count on urban to jump ship. . .

AND THAT IS WHY I SAY PETE!!!

and the guy below me smells like a billiegoat!!!!

Pete Carroll, without a doubt. Not discounting some of the other coaches named, but if you just look at what he has done in the past 6 years (his first year was average, it is really the last five).......
2 National Championships (And played for a third)
5 top 4 BCS finishes
5 BCS bowl appearances (NCAA record)
5 PAC-10 Championships
3 Heisman trophy winners
34 game win streak
National recor 33 weeks ranked as AP's #1 team
84.4% win last 6 years
90.8% win last 5 years (best in NCAA)
5 top 5 recuiting classes

The arguement that he was not a good NFL coach is irrelevant, as the question was, who is the best COLLEGE coach in the past 10 years. Like I said others are good, but Carroll has the numbers to prove his case.

Urban Meyer, without a doubt in the past 10 years has been the best coach to come on the scene. A 61 - 12 record in six years, leading Utah to an undefeated season with a BCS bowl win and finally leading the Gators to a National Championship this past season.
Bob Stoops and Kirk Ferentz are two others near the top of the list. Pete Carroll has been a great coach as well, but has been around longer (counting his NFL experience) and will be known as one of the best college coaches if he sticks around.
That's just a few off the top of my head.

There will be many,
I think Jim Tressel, Urban Myer, Pete Carrol, Jeff Tedford, Chris Peterson, Mack Brown, and Pat Hill. I feel all these coaches took their respective programs into the national spotlight, won big games, and was able to recruit their asses off. Now if the NCAA would hire more minority coaches the list would include some black coaches. I do like Tyrone Willingham no matter what the spoiled ND fans say. He did a great job while he was there, he was never given the chance to finish the job.

Without a doubt Pete Carroll from the SC Trojans 3 Heisman trophy winners, with another projected this season, a couple of Rose bowls win, a couple of national championships by wide margins, has been listed in the top five (5) football polls for the last five years, normally a tough schedule from top to bottom and this is all within the last 6 years.

I hope this has been of Some use to you, good luck.

Urban Meyer took small little Bowling Green and turned them into a great football squad for a couple of years with his innovative offense.

The knock was that his offense wouldn't win at a bigger University. He makes a few tweaks to his offense and in his second year takes a Utah team, which had been terrible in previous years, to an undefeated season. He leaves, and then Utah is terrible again.

Still, people knocked his offense and said it wouldn't work against powerhouse teams. Two years later, he win a national championship with the Gators.

Urban Meyer has to be the guy.

USCcruiser says that Pete Carroll has 2 National Championships.
I only saw him raise the trophy once, same as Urban Meyer, Mack Brown, Nick Saban, and every other school that only won the title game one time.

Even for his disloyalty if he didn't lose anything and turns Alabama around Saban will get credit. The way he burns every bridge WILL HURT him though. Pete Carroll will likely get a nod. Although he SUCKED in the NFL so people who think he will go back need to quit dreaming. Look back at his NFL days and then you will hope he DOESN'T go to your team. Although the talk of wanting him back and him not going will help with his hype.
