I found a couple of sites that may be helpful. In addition, as a pet owner, I say it is important to have good interpersonal skills with people as well as with the animals: people will come back to a vet who listens to their concerns as well as vets who are concerned about the welfare of their animals.

How to become a vet from eHow.com: http://www.ehow.com/how_7976_become-veterinarian.html

American Veterinary Medical Association:

I hope you reach your goal, and I hope your career is rewarding for you :-)

You will have to get into a college and follow a Pre-Vet program which is basically getting your BS then apply to a Vet program at one of the schools that has a full program. By the time you are done you will be one very highly educated person! You can specialize in large animals if you are interested in working with horses or livestock or you can specialize in smaller animals that most folks have for pets. I don't know about insects unless one would study them as parasites or such.

The study of insects is entomology --it is a PhD type thing after a biology degree, for your info. Also, study hard...Vet school is harder to get into than Med school! Good luck!
