I'm taking this question precisely as it was asked, without reference to your choices about what you might want "it" to be, or if it could be "changed." Exactly what is "future?" How could you lose something you don't possess? The very pragmatic & realistic may say by "death;" what about people who believe in reincarnation? Those who simply don't have "linear" thinking? I may have quoted this before, but you might find it thoughtful. "What matters it what went before or after, now wih myself I will begin & end."

Edit: I found Joshuwaa's answer very appealing!

In my opinion, it is not possible to lose the future.
It is possible for a particular future to become unlikely.
Generally speaking, the farther the particular future
is from the present equilibrium the more will that
is required to bring the present to that particular
future. If the future is an individual future then it
requires only individual will. If the future is a collective
future then it requires collective will.

Edit:
After reading over a number of the answers I feel
compelled to include additional content to reinforce
my original conclusion.
People often think of a possible future solely in terms
of the present. This mode of thought eliminates the
future presents which can bring the present present
progressively closer to the particular future. For example,
one of the answerers stated that physical loses would
exclude some of the possible particular futures. However,
that conclusion doesn't take into consideration that in
the time between the present and the future that medical
breakthroughs might be discovered which reenable the
use of the physicalities in effect negating the loss.
Therefore, those particular futures are not completely
eliminated although they do become less likely.

To lose something is to presuppose that it existed at one TIME and then did not exist (or did not exist in the form that you can find).

Theoretically, you could lose the future, but I doubt it would ever happen. How could you lose the future? Well, all time (or the notion of time most understand) is that time occurs when an object is moving. For example, how long is a year? It is the revolution of the Earth around the sun once. Even clocks depict this "the movement of the thing is time" idea. How long is a minute? Well, it is when that "arm" moves one time (or when the "second hand" moves 60 times).

So, if the future is the continuance of time past the present state, then movement must be occurring. Thus, if at some point ALL objects in EXISTENCE stopped moving, there would be no time (as well as no people since we need our heart to pump and move to live). This theoretical example answers the question, but, in my opinion, it is unlikely to occur because motion seems to perpetuate motion.

If a possibility is nixed, so is a future. Possibility and the future always go together.

If, say, it could rain at a given moment, that doesn't mean it *actually* is raining (it's not), only that it's possible - which points ahead of time. And of course, if something's set for the future, it may well happen - then again, things could change.

So if you lose an eye, the door is closed to your future as an Air Force Ranger. Death, the ultimate party-pooper, is just a bigger squelcher of possibilities.

There are a number of ways to 'a priori' predict a future outcome. Such if I bungle a bank robbery I will go to prison, though I have not robbed a bank.

To lose the future is to no adequately prepare for the future, in very many ways. Though the future has not happened, nevertheless, it is possible to 'a priori' plan ahead by studying the past, evaluate the present, and plan a future event.

Yes, of course....losing one´s life would result in losing one´s future....because no matter what how insignificant people may think they are, everyone, absolutely everyone makes at least a minute difference in the world, because everyone makes differences in the lives of others. And that is worth something. So yes, losing one´s life would be the only way to lose one´s future.

However, that being said, i also have to say that, just living for the reasons of survival are not enough, even if you help others in your life, you need to be happy yourself...so even when you´re alive, you have to fight for the kind of future you want....and often its very hard.

Is it possible to lose the future? Hmmmm. What is the future. The next millenia...., century, year, month, day, hour....second?

The future can be the next second. Just right around the corner. So really....is it possible to lose the future. Undoubtly.
But...is possible to lose the next second. In my opinion...sure....but still many are unsure.

Trying to explain the future is like trying to ask a fish why it swims in water.

I mean...the future just is. It's there...it's coming. But it never will arrive. So, why worry about soemthing that just will not arrive?

Let's just enjoy the present. It's a gift. And let's not worry about the Future. Even if it is lost...no one can take our present away from us. And no one can take our past away from us.

Yes it is! Sometimes in life, there's a period where it seems there's no past or future but only the present in pieces. But in difficult times you've got to pick up the pieces and go forward! The future is always awaiting ahead but sometimes we just lose the faith and the courage to move on and it feels as if all is lost, but it's not really lost; it's just behind the mist and fogs! :-) Just follow the right path and it will all unveil before your eyes!
Thank you! :-)

It is very possible, if you die, you lose your future, but you must be talking about the whole world losing it's future, well, anything can lose it's future by making one mistake that may cost them their life.

The future has not happened yet so I would say no. That is if there is such a thing called time, or maybe we live in the present, past and future while dipping a toe into an alternate demension.
