I've literally gone in and deleted every program I can think of, any games I had on my computer. All temp files, cookies, etc, but I still only have about 2GB of memory on my computer. I've deleted all traces of any downloads I had and everything but it still comes up with only 2GB of memory. It's really troublesome sometimes..
My computer's total size is 37.2GB and I haven't had this problem until about a month ago. So can someone give me a straight answer without like, "Your computer's screwed" or telling me to do a system restore, like with the disk. Because I don't have the disk anymore. Thanks in advance..

The only problem with disabling system restore, because it seems like it would work. (Oh thank you for pointing out, I mean storage not memory. I'd say I have about 1GB of ram total but that doesn't matter in this case.) The only problem is when I try to click "turn off system restore" It comes up with an error.. "System Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again." So I restarted my computer but it gives me the same message. This won't be a problem forever since after I get a job, I'm getting a new computer but for now it's just really annoying. Thanks again for all your help everyone. >_<

Okay so I searched online and used regedit to disable system restore, but the storage stays the same. I just don't understand it..

If this is a desk top computer, then just add a second hard drive. You will need to make sure the the existing HDD has its jumper set to either "Master" or "Master with a Slave" and the second drives jumper is set to "Slave". You will also need to formatt the new drive, but that should be easy, most new HDD's come with a disk that will do that for you.

If this is a lap top, then it is a little more difficult. Since you don't have the installation CD, you would need to remove the HDD from the lap top and install it into a desk top PC via the use of an addapter, and then hook up a new and larger HDD via the same method. Do the same jumper setting that I mentioned above. Then, using a program like "Ghost" or "Drive Copy" you can image all of the data that is on the old drive over to the new one.

If any of this causes you to be a little nervous, take your computer to any good Computer Repair shop and they can do this for you.

You can then install the new drive into the lap top. Depending on the size of this new drive, you should have plenty of space for your programs and files.

Just as a note: Memory = RAM. Storage = Hard Drive Space.

What do you mean 2GB of memory? memory has nothing to do with space on the hard drive, if you are talking about space go to control panel then click on system disable system restore then re start computer and after that set it enable again you save allot of space this way but you lose the restore point you will have restore points from now on. when you have audio files or video files that take allot of space and when the computer create restore it is like you copy all your computer to a file that require space, that is why your computer is full.

Try compressing all of the files you don't usually need but don't really want to delete (pictures, music files, etc.). To compress a file or folder: right click on the file, click "Properties", click on "Advanced", check "Compress contents to save disk space." Other than that, I don't really know what you have on your computer that is taking so much space.

Download CCleaner (free) and run the program. It is self explanatory Next click on My Computer, right click on c (your hard disk) and select properties then select disk clean up. Other options include adding a second hard drive. Search for "adding second HD" and you will see just how easy it can be. .

If you just deleted programs instead of uninstalling them then they are still on the computer.
